About Us: Viers Mill Baptist Church, centrally located in Silver Spring, Maryland, seeks a visionary Pastor to guide our congregation and oversee our diverse church community. With a rich legacy spanning over 65 years, Viers Mill Baptist Church is a cornerstone of faith and unity in our multicultural community. We have five distinct congregations on our campus—two Chinese-speaking (Mandarin and Cantonese), one Chinese-speaking in English, one Spanish-speaking, and our English-speaking Fellowship congregation. We are the mother church for these groups, working together in unity and mutual support. Quarterly combined worship services are held with all congregations present, as well as meetings with the leadership of each congregation periodically throughout the year. These gatherings help foster collaboration to facilitate outreach to our community. Responsibilities: As Pastor, our expectation is that you will inspire worship, provide compassionate pastoral care, and lead spiritual growth among our members. You will serve as the point of contact for community outreach and services, ensuring effective collaboration among our congregations. Additionally, you will oversee building stewardship, ensuring the upkeep and safety of our facilities. We seek a leader who can help grow our church with the vision and energy to engage our community and draw in new members. Key responsibilities include: Worship Leadership: Plan and conduct all worship services, ensuring they are spiritually enriching and equipping the congregation for evangelism and growth. Church Administration: Oversee the church’s ministries, facilities, and operations to ensure they function effectively. Serve as chairman of the Church Council, leading in planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the church’s programs. Pastoral Care: Visit and comfort the sick, shut-in, and bereaved. Provide counseling to members and prospects. Conduct baptisms, infant dedications, weddings, and funerals. Community Engagement: Represent the church in the local community, civic matters, and broader denominational affiliations (Montgomery Baptist Association, Baptist Convention of MD/DE, and Southern Baptist Convention). Preaching and Teaching: Develop and share a vision for church growth, deliver biblically sound sermons, and ensure the pulpit ministry is effectively maintained, including arranging for guest speakers when necessary. Music and Worship Collaboration: Work with church music leaders to integrate appropriate worship music into services. Staff and Ministry Oversight: Supervise all staff members and paid personnel, providing guidance and leadership to ensure the effective functioning of church ministries. Church Communications: Serve as editor and publisher for all church publications and the church website. Mission and Outreach: Collaborate with church missions and congregations, participate in multicultural events, and explore new ways the church can engage with the surrounding community. Church Governance: Serve as moderator during business meetings unless delegated to another leader (e.g., Deacon, Financial Officer). Serve as an ex-officio member of all ministries, committees, and church organizations, assisting and encouraging them in their roles. Church Growth & Vision: Develop a long-term vision for spiritual and membership growth while ensuring the church remains financially stable. Compensation: Salary Starting at:: $44,600/year. Qualifications: -Deep dedication to the Christian faith and a fervent desire for ministry. -Ordained within or open to pursuing ordination within the Baptist tradition. -Seminary graduate. -Strong leadership skills, capable of guiding multiple congregations and fostering unity. -Excellent communication abilities across diverse age groups and cultural backgrounds. -Experience in pastoral ministry and church administration.
