STUDENT PASTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION At West Rome Baptist Church our goal is to Help People Find and Follow God’s Plan for Their Lives. We do that through leading people to make three critical Connections: Connection to God, Connection to People and Connection to Purpose. The Student Pastor is responsible for directing and overseeing West Rome’s efforts to fulfill this mission among 7th-12th grade students in our community. The Student Pastor is expected to lead an active outreach and campus ministry strategy focused on the 8 high schools and 7 middle schools in Rome and Floyd County. The Student Pastor should be a committed leader, dynamic teacher, and have a passion for making and mobilizing young disciples as servant leaders. The Student Pastor also needs to be able to lead ministry teams, recruit and empower volunteers, establish collaborative partnerships with parents, and work with other ministry leaders of the church. The ideal candidate has significant experience ministering to students and parents, as well as, experience managing volunteers and leading student teams. We are looking for a person with relational intelligence and the ability to maintain a firm foundation in biblical worldview while still relating well to students and parents of diverse backgrounds and cultures. West Rome is not looking for an entertainer, but rather a person committed to continuous exploration of effective ways of engaging, connecting, and empowering the youth of our community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Leading Student Ministry Worship, Discipleship and Outreach The Student Pastor is responsible for establishing priorities, defining outcomes, and creating programs that provide engaging experiences and life-changing environments for students including:

  • Providing insight and direction for big picture programming and strategic planning processes for in-person, online and campus-based ministries.
  • Curriculum evaluation and selection that aligns with the purposes of the church, priorities of the Student Ministry, and current emphases of the pastoral ministry.
  • Ensuring that check-in areas, ministry spaces, promotional messaging, signage, and online resources are clear, current and focused on new students and their families.
  • Overseeing and coordinating videos, weekly scripts and lessons, printed promotions, verbal announcements, web page and social media information, marketing, etc. about the Student Ministry.
  • Creating and maintaining a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for students and parents, including those students with special needs, at Student Ministry activities and Events.
  • Planning and coordinating facility usage, schedules, promotions, activities and environments.
  •  Participate in the development of an annual budget for Student Ministry and manage Student Ministry spending, expense reports, purchase requests and receipts.

Oversight and Execution of Small Groups The Student Pastor designs and implements practical strategies and systems to help students assimilate into the Student Ministry, develop meaningful connections with other believers, and move from superficial to significant engagement with God and the church fellowship by:

  • Developing intentional plans to utilize events and activities as catalysts for small group connection and formation.
  • Overseeing information and tracking of small group participants and leaders for assessment and strategic improvement.
  • Actively encouraging and empowering small group leaders to connect with families and students during the week.
  • Providing opportunities for students to discover their unique purpose and begin developing their talents and abilities.
  • Offering small group leaders’ curriculum, coaching materials and creative approaches to small group ministry.
  • Implementing a strategy to encourage and equip parents to assist their students in their connection to Christ and their faith journey.

Leadership of Staff, Interns and Volunteers Success in this role will be best accomplished by prioritizing an investment in ministry leaders who, in turn, influence the students. The Student Pastor is responsible for creating an environment that recruits, develops and empowers student ministry leaders by:

  • Communicating clear priorities and objectives for staff and volunteers.
  • Leading ministry, discipleship and service-oriented teams.
  • Overseeing background checks, safety and security procedures, scheduling, training and support of Student Ministry volunteers.
  • Providing spiritual and personal development resources to volunteers in their efforts to become more effective teachers and ministers.
  • Celebrating the successes and spiritual markers of the Student Ministry with staff and volunteers, and consistently acknowledging the investment of volunteers in the Student
  • Ministry through appropriate measures of appreciation.

JOB TYPE  Full-Time

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  •  Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university – prefer degree in Biblical Studies, Education or related field.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in a full-time ministry with students.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expressed working knowledge and/or experience with Microsoft Office (including Excel, PowerPoint and ProPresenter), the Apple Computer ecosystem (Mac, Safari, Pages, etc.) Database Proficiency, Website Content Management, and other related applications.

  • A personal relationship with Jesus that results in a life lived in obedience to the will of God as described in the Bible
  • The Student Pastor is expected to adhere to the guidelines and expectations outlined in the West Rome Baptist Church Personnel Manual.
  • The Student Pastor is expected to uphold and exemplify the stated values and beliefs of West Rome Baptist Church and treat all members and co-workers with respect and the highest standards of professionalism.
  • The Student Pastor is expected to conduct themselves to the best of their ability according to Biblical beliefs and standards.
  • Function as a member of the church’s pastoral staff performing baptisms, weddings, funerals, preaching, and teaching as circumstances dictate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Pastor or Executive Pastor.
