Associate Pastor of Worship Full Time

Western Hills Church is a multi-ethnic, revitalizing church in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Peninsula. We are a small but engaged congregation with the mission that because Jesus is over everything, together we delight in Jesus by making disciples who make disciples, sharing Jesus with those who don’t know him, and by making San Mateo a noticeably better place for his glory.

As we have been fulfilling this mission, we have been experiencing steady growth.   We are seeking a theologically minded and mission driven pastor that can help advance our mission by further developing and growing our worship ministry.  The Worship Pastor crafts the worship liturgy and recruits and equips musicians and singers to help prepare our congregation for a life of worship and discipleship.

Job Description

Ministry Description

• Plan and lead the weekly worship service
• Give vision, direction, and oversight to the worship and tech team
• Create a discipleship atmosphere with members of the worship and tech team
• Connect and develop relationships with people at Western Hills Church and the central peninsula community.
• Based on gifting and passion, lead at least one other church ministry. Possibilities include missions, outreach, college ministry, administration, and discipleship.

Worship Pastor Requirements

• Deeply loves Jesus and people
• Elder qualified man in full agreement with the Baptist Faith and Message 2000, The Gospel Coalition Statement of Faith and with the ecumenical creeds.
• Ability to craft theologically rich worship and congregationally accessible worship services
• Passionate about worshipping Jesus and seeing others worship Him
• Ability to effectively lead worship with a guitar or piano
• Ability to work collaboratively with other team members
• Ability to run a soundboard and worship planning software
• Experience leading worship services
• Master’s degree in music, theology, or a related field preferred
